Endocardial Border Detection

Endocardial border detection is a cardiac imaging technique that identifies the boundary between the blood-filled ventricular cavity and the myocardium, enabling accurate assessment of heart structure and function. In echocardiographic images, algorithms analyze changes in intensity, texture, motion, and anatomical continuity to trace the endocardial contour across the cardiac cycle, often with user guidance or automated segmentation. The resulting contours support measurements of ventricular volume, ejection fraction, and wall motion, while reducing variability in image interpretation. In medicine, this method contributes to cardiac diagnosis, treatment planning, and research on automated, quantitative analysis of cardiac function.

Classically, the endocardium of the mouse embryonic valve primordium has been analyzed using transversal, coronal, or sagittal sections. Our novel approach for en face, two-dimensional imaging of the endocardium at valvulogenic regions allows planar polarity and cell rearrangement analysis of the endocardium during valve development.
