Thiel Embalming

Thiel embalming is a specialized cadaver preservation method used to maintain human tissues in a flexible, natural-looking state for medical education and research. The process uses vascular perfusion and immersion in a preservative solution that limits decomposition while preserving tissue pliability, color, and anatomical relationships. Because embalmed specimens can support realistic dissection, surgical rehearsal, and procedural simulation, Thiel embalming helps learners and clinicians practice techniques under conditions that more closely represent living anatomy. It also enables repeated use of specimens in anatomy teaching and investigation of surgical approaches, biomechanics, and medical devices.

This method aims at locating vertical subsurface defects. Here, we couple a laser with a spatial light modulator and trigger its video input to heat a sample surface deterministically with two anti-phased modulated lines while acquiring highly resolved thermal images. The defect position is retrieved from evaluating thermal wave interference minima.

2023

Source: Kerry M. Dooley and Michael G. Benton, Department of Chemical Engineering, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA Tray and packed columns are both commonly used for distillation, absorption, and stripping separation operations.1,2 The goal of this experiment is to distill a mixture of alcohols (methanol, isopropanol) and water in a sieve tray column and examine how closely simple theories of distillation based on equilibrium assumptions are followed. Sieve trays provide maximum...
