Optical Device Measurement

Optical device measurement is the quantitative evaluation of instruments that generate, transmit, detect, or analyze light, helping establish their accuracy, safety, and clinical reliability. Using calibrated light sources, photodetectors, and tissue-mimicking phantoms, investigators measure properties such as wavelength, intensity, spatial resolution, sensitivity, and signal stability under defined conditions. In medicine, these assessments support the validation of imaging systems, pulse oximeters, spectroscopy devices, and light-based diagnostic or therapeutic tools. Standardized measurements improve device calibration, enable meaningful comparison between instruments, and help translate optical technologies from laboratory development into dependable patient care.
