Technology Access

Technology access is the ability of people and healthcare systems to obtain, use, and benefit from tools, information, and services that support health and medical care. In medicine, access depends on factors such as affordability, physical infrastructure, internet connectivity, digital literacy, procurement, and training, which determine whether technologies function reliably in real-world settings. Equitable access can expand telemedicine, support remote monitoring, improve diagnostic and treatment workflows, and connect underserved communities with clinicians and health information. Studying technology access helps identify barriers that contribute to unequal care and guides the design, implementation, and evaluation of practical medical innovations.

Total Factor Productivity (TFP) measures the efficiency with which inputs are transformed into outputs in production. It is the essence of economic growth, driven by technological advancement. Consider the agricultural sector, where production requires vast amounts of human labor and work animals. Today, modern farm machinery and agriculture technologies have revolutionized how we cultivate crops and produce food much more efficiently. TP = A*f(K, L) TFP is represented as a multiplier 'A' in...

Hybridoma technology is used for the large-scale production of monoclonal antibodies. Monoclonal antibodies bind to only a single antigenic determinant or epitope. Such antibodies are used in research, diagnostics, and disease therapy. The hybridoma technology established in 1975 by Georges Köhler and Cesar Milstein was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1984 for revolutionizing research and therapy. Hybridoma Selection Commonly used fusion techniques — electroporation, polyethylene glycol...

Source: Madeline Lassche, MSNEd, RN and Katie Baraki, MSN, RN, College of Nursing, University of Utah, UT Central venous access devices (CVAD), commonly known as central lines or central catheters, are large-bore intravenous (IV) catheters that are introduced into the central circulation. Typically, CVADs terminate in the superior vena cava, just outside of the right atrium of the heart, but they may also terminate in any one of the great veins (i.e., aorta, inferior vena cava, brachiocephalic...
