Cap Cleaning

Cap cleaning is the post-use process of removing electrode gel, skin oils, sweat, and other residues from a cap used for electroencephalography (EEG) or related neuroscience recordings. Rinsing and washing the cap with suitable water and cleaning agents clears conductive material from electrode holders and cables while avoiding damage to sensors, connectors, and fabric components. Proper cleaning helps maintain electrical contact, reduce contamination between participants, limit corrosion and microbial buildup, and extend equipment life. Consistent cap-care procedures therefore support reliable neural-signal acquisition, improve experimental reproducibility, and promote safe, hygienic operation in research and clinical recording environments.

2023

Source: Vy M. Dong and Daniel Kim, Department of Chemistry, University of California, Irvine, CA Organic synthesis is about transforming a readily available reagent into a more valuable product. Having clean glassware is crucial for the efficiency of this process. Dirty glassware can potentially affect the reaction and make isolation of the final product more challenging. Thus, a synthetic chemist must keep the glassware spotless. The methods described here will detail different glass cleaning...

Keeping the microscope optics clean is important for high-quality imaging. Dust, fingerprints, excess immersion oil, or mounting medium on or in a microscope causes reduction in contrast and resolution. DIC is especially sensitive to contamination and scratches on the lens surfaces. This protocol details the procedure for keeping the microscope clean.

Cleaning, Sterilization, and Disinfection

Cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization are the methods that help to break the infection chain and prevent disease. Cleaning The cleaning process usually involves using water with detergents or enzymatic cleaner and removing foreign material from objects and surfaces, including organic material such as body fluids or inorganic material like soil. Cleaning is performed before high-level disinfection and sterilization because foreign materials on the cover of the devices interfere with process...

This method describes high yield in vitro synthesis of both capped and uncapped mRNA from a linearized plasmid containing the Gaussia luciferase (GLuc) gene. The RNA is purified and a fraction of the uncapped RNA is enzymatically capped using the Vaccinia virus capping enzyme. In the final step, the mRNA is transfected into HeLa cells and cell culture supernatants are assayed for luciferase activity.
