Slice Recovery Chamber

A Slice Recovery Chamber is a laboratory device used to maintain freshly cut brain tissue slices in a controlled environment before neuroscience experiments. It supports recovery by holding slices in oxygenated artificial cerebrospinal fluid, typically at a controlled temperature, so cells can restore ionic balance and metabolic function after mechanical stress from sectioning. By improving tissue viability and physiological stability, the chamber helps researchers obtain more reliable recordings and observations in electrophysiology, fluorescence imaging, and pharmacological studies. Standardized recovery conditions also support comparisons across experiments involving synaptic transmission, neuronal circuits, and responses to drugs or other stimuli.

This video demonstrates a detailed protocol for preparing horizontal hippocampal brain slices from mice, focusing on preserving the integrity of hippocampal fiber pathways. The process involves carefully bisecting and securing the brain, using a vibratome for slicing, and maintaining optimal tissue conditions with a carbogenated fluid, resulting in hippocampal brain slices ready for further experimentation.
