Space Time

Spacetime is the unified four-dimensional framework of three spatial dimensions and time, providing the foundation for describing where and when physical events occur. In Einstein’s theories of relativity, matter and energy curve spacetime, while this geometry determines how objects and light move; observers in relative motion can also measure different intervals of time and distance. The concept explains effects such as time dilation, gravitational lensing, and planetary orbits, and it underlies modern models of black holes, gravitational waves, and the expanding universe. Spacetime calculations also support practical technologies, including the precise timing corrections required by global positioning systems.

Space-Time Curvature and the General Theory of Relativity

2023

In 1905, Albert Einstein published his special theory of relativity. According to this theory, no matter in the universe can attain a speed greater than the speed of light in a vacuum, which thus serves as the speed limit of the universe. This has been verified in many experiments. However, space and time are no longer absolute. Two observers moving relative to one another do not agree on the length of objects or the passage of time. The mechanics of objects based on Newton's laws of motion,...

This protocol describes real-time iontophoresis, a method that measures physical parameters of the extracellular space (ECS) of living brains. The diffusion of an inert molecule released into the ECS is used to calculate the ECS volume fraction and tortuosity. It is ideal for studying acute reversible changes to brain ECS.

Simple and reproducible procedures are described for making three structurally distinct collagen assemblies from a common commercially available Type I collagen monomer. Native type, fibrous long spacing or segmental long spacing collagen can be constructed by varying the conditions to which the 300 nm long and 1.4 nm diameter monomer building block is exposed.
