Challenge Management Approach

The Challenge Management Approach is a structured framework for understanding and responding to difficult situations, emotions, or demands in psychological contexts. It works by helping individuals identify a challenge, appraise its perceived demands and available resources, select coping responses, and adjust those responses as circumstances change. This process can organize assessment and intervention in research and practice, including work on stress, problem solving, emotional regulation, and behavior change. By linking challenge appraisal with adaptive coping and ongoing feedback, the approach helps clarify why people respond differently to similar situations and supports the development of more effective psychological strategies.
