Electron Microscopy Imaging

Electron microscopy imaging is a high-resolution method for visualizing structures far smaller than those typically resolved by light microscopy, making it valuable for examining materials, cells, and biomolecular assemblies. In a vacuum, a focused electron beam interacts with a specimen, and transmitted, scattered, or emitted electrons are collected by detectors to generate contrast; transmission electron microscopy reveals internal ultrastructure, while scanning electron microscopy maps surface morphology. In bioengineering, these approaches characterize scaffolds, nanoparticles, membranes, tissues, and cell–material interfaces, linking nanoscale architecture to biological function. The resulting images support material design, fabrication quality assessment, and studies of structure–function relationships.
