Electrotactic Chambers

Electrotactic chambers are experimental devices that expose living cells to controlled electric fields to measure and study electrotaxis, the directed movement of cells in response to electrical cues. The chamber uses electrodes and a conductive culture medium to generate a stable field across a cell layer, causing cells to sense field polarity and alter their migration direction, speed, or persistence. In bioengineering, these systems support quantitative studies of cell motility, wound repair, tissue organization, and electrically guided regeneration. By controlling field strength, exposure time, and culture conditions, researchers can examine how electrical signals interact with biochemical and mechanical cues, informing the design of regenerative therapies and engineered tissues.

Electrostatic Boundary Conditions

2025

Consider an external electric field propagating through a homogeneous medium. When the electric field crosses the surface boundary of the medium, it undergoes a discontinuity. The electric field can be resolved into normal and tangential components. The amount by which the field changes at any boundary is given by the difference between the field components above and below the surface boundary. The surface integral of an electric field is given by Gauss's law in integral form and is related to...

Nanoparticle release is tested using a chamber system that includes a condensation particle counter, an optical particle counter and sampling ports to collect filter samples for microscopy analysis. The proposed chamber system can be effectively used for nanomaterial release testing with a repeatable and consistent data range.

Electrostatic Method to Remove Particulate Organic Matter from Soil

Removing recently deposited and incompletely decomposed plant material from soil samples reduces the influence of temporary seasonal inputs on soil organic carbon measurements. Attraction to an electrostatically charged surface can be used to quickly remove a substantial amount of particulate organic matter.

Electrostatic Boundary Conditions in Dielectrics

2023

When an electric field passes from one homogeneous medium to another, crossing the boundary between the two mediums imparts a discontinuity in the electric field. This results in electrostatic boundary conditions that depend on the type of mediums the field propagates through. Consider a case where both the mediums across a boundary are two different dielectric materials. Recall that the electric field and electric displacement are proportional and related through the material's permittivity.

Chambers of the Heart

The human heart is a complex organ made up of four chambers: the right and left atria and the right and left ventricles. These internal chambers are separated by partitions known as the interatrial and interventricular septa. The exterior of the heart features a groove known as the coronary sulcus that demarcates the atria from the ventricles, while the anterior and posterior interventricular sulci distinguish between the two ventricles. Deoxygenated blood from the body is received in the right...
