Bleach Treatment

Bleach treatment is the controlled use of bleach, typically a sodium hypochlorite solution, to disinfect, decontaminate, or remove pigments from biological materials and laboratory surfaces. Its active chlorine compounds oxidize cellular components, including proteins, membranes, and nucleic acids, while treatment strength and exposure time determine its effectiveness and potential to damage the material. In biology, bleach treatment helps reduce microbial contamination during seed surface sterilization, laboratory cleaning, and preparation of selected specimens for microscopy or culture. Careful control of concentration, contact time, and rinsing supports reliable results while limiting harm to living tissues, experimental samples, and laboratory equipment.

Visualizing individual cells in densely packed tissues, such as terminal Schwann cells (SCs) at neuromuscular junctions (NMJs), is challenging. "Sequential photo-bleaching" allows delineating single terminal SCs, for instance in the triangularis sterni muscle explant, a convenient nerve-muscle preparation, where sequential bleaching can be combined with time-lapse imaging and post-hoc immunostainings.

Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease. The Goeckerman regimen, formulated for the treatment of psoriasis, consists of exposure to ultraviolet B (UVB) light and application of crude coal tar (CCT). The following protocol is for the administration of Goeckerman therapy for the treatment of moderate-to-severe psoriasis.

Chromatin looseness appears to be involved in the developmental potential of blastomeres. However, it is not known whether chromatin looseness can be used as a reliable index for the developmental potential for embryos. Here, an experimental system in which chromatin looseness-evaluated zygotes can develop to full term has been described.
