Foreign Dna Recognition

Foreign DNA recognition is the biological ability to distinguish genetic material originating outside a cell or organism from self-DNA, a process essential for genome protection and immune defense. Recognition can depend on DNA sequence, chemical modifications, structural features, or abnormal cellular location; for example, host sensors detect cytosolic DNA and activate signaling pathways that induce inflammatory and antiviral responses, while restriction enzymes identify specific sequences and cleave invading DNA. Studying these mechanisms clarifies how cells respond to viruses, bacteria, and introduced genetic material, supporting research in infection biology, genome engineering, biotechnology, and therapeutic delivery.

Protein binding microarray (PBM) experiments combined with biochemical assays link the binding and catalytic properties of DNA primase, an enzyme that synthesizes RNA primers on template DNA. This method, designated as high-throughput primase profiling (HTPP), can be used to reveal DNA-binding patterns of a variety of enzymes.

Source: Laboratories of Jonas T. Kaplan and Sarah I. Gimbel—University of Southern California The autonomic nervous system (ANS) controls the activity of the body's internal organs and regulates changes in their activity depending on the current environment. The vagus nerve, which innervates many of the internal organs, is an important part of the system. When our brain senses danger, vagal tone is inhibited, leading to a set of changes in the body designed to make us more prepared to fight or...

CRISPR-associated protein Cpf1 can be guided by a specially designed CRISPR RNA (crRNA) to cleave double-stranded DNA at desired sites, generating sticky ends. Based on this characteristic, a DNA assembly standard (C-Brick) was established, and a protocol detailing its use is described here.

Revenue Recognition

The revenue recognition principle is a central guideline in accrual accounting that dictates when revenue should be recorded in financial statements. It requires that revenue be recognized when a company satisfies a performance obligation, meaning when it has delivered goods or completed services as agreed in a contract, regardless of when the customer pays. This principle ensures that income is reported in the accounting period in which it is actually earned, providing a more accurate...
