Biobank Storage

Biobank storage is the systematic preservation of biological specimens and their associated data so samples remain suitable for future research, diagnosis, or analysis. It typically combines standardized collection, processing, labeling, and inventory with controlled conditions such as refrigeration, freezing, or cryopreservation, which slow degradation and help maintain molecular and cellular integrity. In cancer research, biobanks may store tumor tissue, blood, nucleic acids, and matched clinical information, enabling researchers to compare biomarkers, study disease progression, and evaluate treatment responses. Robust quality control, traceability, and data management improve reproducibility and allow valuable specimens to support longitudinal studies, precision medicine, and the development of new cancer therapies.

A schema is a mental framework that helps individuals organize and interpret information. Schemata, formed from previous experiences, influence how we process new information: how we encode it, the inferences we make, and how we retrieve it. For instance, a schema for what a typical classroom looks like might include desks, a teacher's desk, a whiteboard, and students in such an environment. This expectation helps us quickly understand and navigate new classrooms without needing to analyze each...

Source: Robert M. Rioux & Taslima A. Zaman, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA While the use of various chemicals in experimental research is essential, it is also important to safely store and maintain them as a part of the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) program. The properties of chemicals and their reactivity vary broadly and if chemicals are not managed, stored, and labeled properly, they can have harmful or even destructive consequences such as toxic fume...
