Ruthenium Precatalyst

A ruthenium precatalyst is a stable ruthenium-containing compound that converts under reaction conditions into the active catalyst, enabling controlled chemical transformations while improving handling and storage. Activation commonly involves ligand dissociation, ligand exchange, reduction, or changes in coordination geometry that generate a reactive ruthenium center capable of binding substrates and mediating bond-making or bond-breaking steps. In synthetic chemistry, precatalyst design influences catalytic activity, selectivity, induction periods, and compatibility with reaction conditions. Ruthenium precatalysts support applications including hydrogenation, olefin metathesis, oxidation, and C–H functionalization, making their structure and activation pathways important for developing efficient catalytic methods.

2015

Ruthenium phosphine complexes are widely used for homogeneous catalytic reactions such as hydrogenations. The synthesis of a series of novel tridentate ruthenium complexes bearing the N-triphos ligand N(CH2PPh2)3 is reported. Additionally, the stoichiometric reaction of a dihydride Ru–N-triphos complex with levulinic acid is described.

A removable water-soluble N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand in aqueous media via host-guest interaction has been developed. We demonstrated representative olefin metathesis reactions in water as well as in dichloromethane. Via either host-guest interaction or extraction, the residual ruthenium (Ru) catalyst was as low as 0.14 ppm after the reaction.

Dose Uptake of Platinum- and Ruthenium-based Compound Exposure in Zebrafish by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry with Broader Applications

2022

The increased rate of pharmaco- and toxicokinetic analyses of metals and metal-based compounds in zebrafish can be advantageous for environmental and clinical translation studies. The limitation of unknown waterborne exposure uptake was overcome by conducting trace metal analysis on digested zebrafish tissue using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.
