Patient Involvement

Patient involvement is the active participation of patients in decisions about their care and in the design, conduct, and evaluation of clinical research. It works through clear communication, shared decision-making, and the systematic integration of patients’ experiences, preferences, and priorities alongside clinical evidence and professional expertise. In clinical settings, involvement can shape treatment choices, improve the relevance and acceptability of interventions, and identify outcomes that matter to patients. It also supports research co-design, helping investigators develop more responsive studies, improve recruitment and retention, and strengthen the real-world value of clinical findings.

Antigens Involved in Adaptive Immunity

2024

An antigen is any substance the immune system identifies as foreign and potentially harmful to the body, prompting an immune response. Antigens have two functional properties: immunogenicity and reactivity. Immunogenicity is the ability of an antigen to stimulate a specific immune response. At the same time, reactivity describes the antigen's ability to react with the cells and antibodies produced in response to it. Complete Antigens Complete antigens possess both immunogenicity and reactivity.

This manuscript describes the Research Prioritization by Affected Communities (RPAC) protocol and findings from its use with women at risk for preterm birth. Using the protocol, women identified and prioritized their unanswered questions about pregnancy, birth and neonatal care aimed at influencing research priority setting by funders and researchers.

Screening Assays to Characterize Novel Endothelial Regulators Involved in the Inflammatory Response

Vascular endothelium tightly controls leukocyte recruitment. Inadequate leukocyte extravasation contributes to human inflammatory diseases. Therefore, searching for novel regulatory elements of endothelial activation is necessary to design improved therapies for inflammatory disorders. Here, we describe a comprehensive methodology to characterize novel endothelial regulators that can modify leukocyte trafficking during inflammation.

2012

This article describes a simple model for stimulating angiogenesis in the rat mesentery. The model produces dramatic increases in capillary sprouting, vascular area and vascular density over a relatively short time course in a tissue that allows en face visualization of entire microvascular networks down to the single cell level.
