Crane Lifting

Crane lifting is an engineering operation that uses a crane and rigging equipment to raise, move, and position heavy loads safely and precisely. The crane generates lifting force through a hoist, wire rope, and boom or jib, while load charts, center-of-gravity assessment, rigging selection, and ground stability determine the safe working limits. Engineers apply these principles in construction, manufacturing, infrastructure projects, and material handling to control load movement and reduce risks such as overturning, dropped loads, and structural overload. Understanding crane lifting supports efficient planning, equipment selection, site safety, and the reliable installation of large components.

Lift

Lift is a fundamental aerodynamic force that acts perpendicular to the direction of airflow. It plays a central role in achieving and sustaining flight and in stabilizing various vehicles. Lift primarily originates from pressure differences created across surfaces, such as an airfoil. A lower pressure region forms above the wing, while a higher pressure region forms below it, generating an upward force. This differential results from the shape and orientation of the airfoil, enabling the wing...

Clark Y-14 Wing Performance: Deployment of High-lift Devices (Flaps and Slats)

Source: David Guo, College of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics (CETA), Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), Manchester, New Hampshire A wing is the major lift-generating apparatus in an airplane. Wing performance can be further enhanced by deploying high-lift devices, such as flaps (at the trailing edge) and slats (at the leading edge) during takeoff or landing. In this experiment, a wind tunnel is utilized to generate certain airspeeds, and a Clark Y-14 wing with a flap and slat...

Due to the high lipid content, adipose tissue has been challenging to visualize using traditional histological methods. Adipo-Clear is a tissue clearing technique that allows robust labeling and high-resolution volumetric fluorescent imaging of adipose tissue. Here, we describe the methods for sample preparation, pretreatment, staining, clearing, and mounting for imaging.
