Distributed Training

Distributed training is a machine learning approach that uses multiple computers or processors to train a model, reducing the time and computational load required for large datasets and complex architectures. In data-parallel training, each worker processes a different subset of a batch, computes gradients, and synchronizes model updates through methods such as all-reduce, while model-parallel strategies divide the model itself across devices. This approach supports scalable engineering workflows for deep learning, high-performance computing, and large-scale experimentation. Effective communication, workload distribution, fault tolerance, and hardware coordination are essential for achieving speedups without compromising convergence or reproducibility.

2026

All animal procedures described here must be conducted in accordance with institutional animal ethics guidelines and approved by IACUC. All procedures must follow the principles of the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—and must be performed by trained personnel. A Stepwise Approach to Training Proper training and competency in animal procedures are essential to ensure high standards of animal welfare and reliable scientific outcomes. A structured, progressive training approach is...

Here, we present a protocol to elicit Pavlovian conditioned approach behavior in rats. This procedure can be used to measure individual differences in the tendency to approach and attribute incentive salience to reward-related cues and investigate addiction vulnerability.

Drug Distribution: Volume of Distribution

2023

The volume of distribution refers to the theoretical volume necessary to contain the entire amount of an administered drug at the same concentration observed in the blood plasma. The body's intracellular fluid compartment, which makes up two-thirds of the total body water, is contrasted with the extracellular fluid compartment—comprising plasma and interstitial fluid—that accounts for one-third. The volume of distribution can vary depending on the characteristics of the drug.
