Chemerin-expressing Tumors

Chemerin-expressing tumors are neoplastic tissues or tumor cells that produce detectable levels of chemerin, an adipokine and chemoattractant linking cancer biology with inflammation and metabolism. Chemerin is secreted as a precursor and converted into bioactive forms that signal mainly through CMKLR1, influencing immune-cell recruitment, tumor-cell behavior, angiogenesis, and interactions within the tumor microenvironment. In medicine, profiling chemerin expression and receptor activity can help characterize tumor biology, assess associations with disease progression or prognosis, and identify pathways for biomarker development or therapeutic investigation. Its effects are context-dependent, varying with tumor type and the surrounding immune and stromal cells.
