Matrigel Ecm Protein

Matrigel is a protein-rich extracellular matrix (ECM) preparation that mimics the basement membrane, providing structural and biochemical support for cells in laboratory models. Its major components, including laminin, collagen IV, and entactin/nidogen, polymerize into a three-dimensional gel under physiological conditions and present signals that influence cell adhesion, polarity, survival, and differentiation. In medicine and biomedical research, Matrigel supports organoid and stem-cell culture, tumor invasion assays, angiogenesis studies, and tissue-engineering experiments. By reproducing key features of the cellular microenvironment, it helps researchers model development and disease while evaluating how cells respond to drugs or genetic changes.

This video demonstrates how to maintain the growth of human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) in feeder cell-free conditions and how to continuously passage hESCs in feeder cell-free conditions. Confirmation of hESC pluripotency grown in feeder cell-free conditions by immunofluorescence microscopy is also demonstrated. Part 3 of 3.

Collagens are the Major Structural Proteins of ECM

2023

Three main types of fibers are secreted by fibroblasts: collagen fibers, elastic fibers, and reticular fibers. Collagen fiber is made from fibrous protein subunits linked together to form a long, straight fiber. Collagen fibers, while flexible, have great tensile strength, resist stretching, and give ligaments and tendons their characteristic resilience and strength. These fibers hold connective tissues together, even during the body's movement. Connective tissue proper includes loose...
