Memory Training

Memory training is a set of structured exercises designed to strengthen memory performance, making it relevant to cognitive health, rehabilitation, and medical research. Activities may use retrieval practice, spaced repetition, strategy instruction, or working-memory tasks to reinforce information encoding and improve its later recall under defined conditions. In medicine, memory training can support cognitive rehabilitation for people experiencing memory difficulties and help researchers evaluate changes in learning, attention, and everyday functioning. Its outcomes depend on the task, training schedule, participant characteristics, and how well gains transfer beyond the practiced exercises, making careful measurement essential for clinical and research applications.

Spatial Memory Testing Using Mazes

2023

Spatial learning and memory are neurological functions that allow us to remember important details associated with our environment. Scientists test this phenomenon in rodents using different types of mazes like Morris water maze, Radial water maze, and Barnes maze. By investigating spatial memory in rodents, neurobehavioral scientists can gain valuable understanding of how these processes are altered following brain damage in humans. Here, the neurobiology behind spatial memory is briefly...

Working memory predicts a significant amount of variance for a variety of cognitive tasks, including speaking, reading, and writing. However, few tools are available to assess working memory in children. We present an innovative, computer-based battery that comprehensively assesses different components of working memory in school-age children.

An Introduction to Learning and Memory

Learning is the process of acquiring new information and memory is the retention or storage of that information. Different types of learning, such as non-associative and associative learning, and different types of memory, such as long-term and short-term memory, have been associated with human behaviors. Studying these components in detail helps behavioral scientists understand the neural mechanisms behind these two complex phenomena. JoVE's overview on learning and memory introduces common...
