Metastatic Frequency Assessment

Metastatic Frequency Assessment is the systematic measurement of how often cancer spreads from a primary tumor to distant organs within a defined patient population, time period, or disease type. It combines clinical records, imaging, pathology, or cancer-registry data to identify metastatic cases, classify sites of spread, and calculate proportions or rates, often with stratification by tumor stage or patient characteristics. In medicine, these assessments clarify patterns of disease progression, support prognosis and treatment planning, and help researchers compare metastatic risk across cancers or populations. Consistent assessment also strengthens epidemiological studies, clinical trial design, and evaluation of emerging diagnostic or therapeutic strategies.

Experimental Metastatic Melanoma Mouse Model: A Platform to Study the Metastatic Potential of Melanoma Cells in the Lungs

2023

In this video, melanoma cells are intravenously injected through the tail vein in the mouse model. The melanoma cells further travel through the circulatory system, adapting to the distant microenvironment and causing metastasis in organs like lungs.

Is My Mouse Pregnant? High-Frequency Ultrasound Assessment

High-resolution ultrasound can help streamline experiments requiring timed-pregnant mice by determining the state of pregnancy, gestational age, and pregnancy losses. Presented here is a protocol to illustrate methods to assess mouse pregnancies as well as potential pitfalls (image artifacts) that may mimic pregnancy.

Models of spontaneous metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC) disease progression can be used for evaluating treatments in a clinically relevant setting. This protocol demonstrates different procedures for orthotopic kidney tumor cell implantation, proper nephrectomy, and finally outlines a necropsy guide for visual and bioluminescent scoring of metastatic burden and localization.

Methylene Blue Staining to Assess Metastatic Colony Formation In Vitro: A Staining Procedure to Assess Metastasis by Quantifying Harvested Cancer Cells From Cancer Mouse Model
