3d Rendering

3D rendering is the computational process of generating two-dimensional images from three-dimensional models or volumetric data, making complex structures easier to visualize and analyze. In neuroscience, software can reconstruct brain anatomy, neurons, or neural networks from segmented microscopy, MRI, or other imaging data, then assign geometry, color, opacity, and lighting to the representation. During rendering, the system projects the model through a virtual camera and calculates visibility and shading, while volume-rendering methods map signal intensity to color and transparency. These visualizations support anatomical interpretation, quantitative measurements, neural morphology studies, and communication of imaging results, helping researchers examine spatial relationships across scales.

Femtosecond-laser direct-writing is frequently used to create three-dimensional (3D) patterns in polymers and glasses. However, patterning metals in 3D remains a challenge. We describe a method for fabricating silver nanostructures embedded inside a polymer matrix using a femtosecond laser centered at 800 nm.
