Adult Modeling

Adult modeling in psychology is a form of observational learning in which people acquire behaviors, skills, attitudes, or emotional responses by watching adults demonstrate them. Learning occurs when observers attend to a model, retain the observed behavior, reproduce it, and receive motivation through direct or vicarious reinforcement, such as seeing the model rewarded or approved. Adult modeling helps explain how parents, teachers, clinicians, supervisors, and community leaders influence development and behavior. Researchers apply the concept to education, parenting, social skills training, health communication, and behavior therapy, where constructive adult examples can support learning and reduce harmful patterns.

Modeling Amyloid-β42 Toxicity and Neurodegeneration in Adult Zebrafish Brain

This protocol describes the synthesis, characterization, and injection of monomeric amyloid-β42 peptides for generating amyloid toxicity in adult zebrafish to establish an Alzheimer's disease model, followed by histological analyses and detection of aggregations.

Optic Nerve Transection: A Model of Adult Neuron Apoptosis in the Central Nervous System

Optic Nerve transection is a widely used model of adult CNS injury. Ninety percent of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) whose axons are completely transected (axotomy) die within 14 days after axotomy. This model is easily amenable to experimental manipulations and highly reproducible.

Establishing a Model of Zika Virus-Induced Neurodegeneration in an Adult Mouse

2025

The video demonstrates intracerebral injection of Zika virus suspension in an adult mouse to induce neurodegeneration. An anesthetized mouse is secured in a stereotaxic frame, and a hole is drilled into the exposed skull for injection. A suspension of the Zika virus is injected into the brain tissue. The viral infection causes inflammation, leading to neurodegeneration.

Dissection of the Adult Zebrafish Kidney

The zebrafish kidney is home to both renal and hematopoietic adult stem/progenitor cells, and represents an outstanding opportunity to study these cell types and their progeny in a vertebrate model organism. Here, we demonstrate a detailed dissection procedure that enables the researcher to identify and surgically remove the adult zebrafish kidney, which can be used for applications such as cell isolation, transplantation, and expression studies of kidney and/or blood cell populations.

An Assay for Lateral Line Regeneration in Adult Zebrafish

Because many zebrafish models of neurological and non-neurological diseases are studied in the adult fish rather than the embryo/larvae, we developed a quantitative lateral line regenerative assay that can be applied to adult zebrafish disease models. The assay involved resolution at the 1) neuromast and 2) individual hair cell levels.
