Intersystem Crossing Promotion

Intersystem crossing promotion is the enhancement of a radiationless transition between electronic states with different spin multiplicities, typically from an excited singlet to a triplet state. The process becomes more likely when spin–orbit coupling mixes singlet and triplet wavefunctions, with promotion aided by heavy atoms, n→π* character, or closely spaced electronic energy levels. In chemistry, controlling intersystem crossing helps determine whether excited molecules undergo fluorescence, phosphorescence, energy transfer, or photochemical reactions. This principle supports the design of photosensitizers, photocatalysts, and light-responsive materials, while improving understanding of molecular photophysics and the pathways that govern excited-state reactivity.

The Eukaryotic Promoter Region

2020

The eukaryotic promoter region is a segment of DNA located upstream of a gene. It contains an RNA polymerase binding site, a transcription start site, and several cis-regulatory sequences. The proximal promoter region is located in the vicinity of the gene and has cis-regulatory sequences and the core promoter. The core promoter is the binding site for RNA polymerase and is usually located between -35 and +35 nucleotides from the transcription start site. The distal promoter regions are...

Promoter expression analyses are crucial to improving the understanding of gene regulation and the spatiotemporal expression of target genes. Herein we present a protocol to identify, isolate, and clone a plant promoter. Further, we describe the characterization of the nodule-specific promoter in the common bean hairy roots.

Promotion Metrics

2025

Businesses rely on various promotional metrics to gauge the effectiveness of marketing campaigns. Baseline sales represent the average sales without any promotional efforts, while incremental sales measure the increase in sales resulting from a promotion. For example, if a product typically sells 300 units and a promotion increases sales to 400 units, the incremental sales are 100. This distinction is crucial for evaluating the true impact of promotional activities. Impressions count the number...

Genetic Crosses

2023

To dissect genetic processes or create organisms with novel suites of traits, scientists can perform genetic crosses, or the purposeful mating of two organisms. The recombination of parental genetic material in the offspring allows researchers to deduce the functions, interactions, and locations of genes. This video will examine how genetic crosses were influential in developing Mendel's three laws of inheritance, which form the basis of our understanding of genetics. One genetic crossing...

Making a Geologic Cross Section

Source: Laboratory of Alan Lester - University of Colorado Boulder Geologic maps were first made and utilized in Europe, in the mid-to-late 18th century. Ever since, they have been an important part of geological investigations all around the world that strive to understand rock distributions on the surface of the earth, in the subsurface, and their modification through time. A modern geologic map is a data-rich representation of rocks and rock-structures in a two-dimensional plan view. The...
