Hydrophilic Diluents

Hydrophilic diluents are water-attracting pharmaceutical excipients used to increase formulation volume and help distribute an active ingredient uniformly. When exposed to aqueous fluids, they readily wet and interact with water, promoting dispersion or dissolution while adjusting the concentration, flow, or handling properties of a preparation. In clinical pharmaceutics, these materials support the manufacture of tablets, capsules, powders, and liquid formulations, where their compatibility with water can influence dose uniformity, release behavior, and patient administration. Selecting an appropriate hydrophilic diluent therefore helps balance manufacturability with consistent drug delivery and formulation performance.

A Protocol for the Production of Gliadin-cyanoacrylate Nanoparticles for Hydrophilic Coating

2016

This article presents a protocol for the production of protein-based nanoparticles that changes the hydrophobic surface to hydrophilic. The produced nanoparticle is an assembly of gliadin-cyanoacrylate diblock copolymers. Spray coating with the produced nanoparticle changes the surface of target material to a hydrophilic surface.

We present a protocol to synthesize Janus microhydrogels composed entirely of the same base material, poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm), with a clearly compartmentalized structure base on the phase separation of a supersaturated NIPAAm monomer solution. The synthesized Janus microhydrogels show unique properties such as anisotropic thermo-responsiveness and organophilic/hydrophilic loading capability.

This study describes classical hydration using the thin lipid film method for nanoliposome preparation followed by nanoparticle characterization. A 47 kDa-hydrophilic and globular protein, tarin, is successfully encapsulated as a strategy to improve stability, avoid fast clearance, and promote controlled release. The method can be adapted to hydrophobic molecules encapsulation.
