Liver Span Measurement

Liver span measurement is a clinical assessment of the liver’s vertical size, used to screen for hepatomegaly and support evaluation of abdominal health. During bedside examination, clinicians percuss from resonant lung tissue to the liver’s area of dullness and may confirm the lower border by palpation; the distance between these landmarks estimates liver span, while ultrasound can provide a more direct measurement. Results are interpreted with attention to age, body habitus, sex, and technique, then combined with symptoms, laboratory findings, and imaging to investigate conditions such as fatty liver, hepatitis, congestion, or cirrhosis.

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University Why is it relatively hard to remember everything on a shopping list if it includes more than just a handful of items? Why is it possible to remember a phone number that one just heard, but not two or three phone numbers at once? Why is it difficult to remember names when several new people are introduced at the same time?
