Swap Test

The swap test is a quantum algorithm for estimating how similar two quantum states are, making it a useful tool in quantum information engineering. It prepares an ancilla qubit in superposition, applies a controlled-SWAP operation to exchange the states conditionally, and then measures the ancilla; the probability of observing its zero state encodes the states’ overlap. Engineers use this result to compare quantum data, evaluate state preparation, detect differences between quantum signals, and support quantum machine-learning methods. The test also provides a practical framework for studying quantum circuits, measurement uncertainty, and the performance of emerging quantum hardware.

Here, we present a protocol to use a curvelet transform-based, open-source MATLAB software tool for quantifying fibrillar collagen organization in the extracellular matrix of both normal and diseased tissues. This tool can be applied to images with collagen fibers or other types of line-like structures.

Viral Recombination

2019

Cells are sometimes infected by more than one virus at once. When two viruses disassemble to expose their genomes for replication in the same cell, similar regions of their genomes can pair together and exchange sequences in a process called recombination. Alternatively, viruses with segmented genomes can swap segments in a process called reassortment. Viral Recombination Can Create New Diseases Some diseases can infect multiple species. For example, pigs can be infected by some human and...

This method aims at locating vertical subsurface defects. Here, we couple a laser with a spatial light modulator and trigger its video input to heat a sample surface deterministically with two anti-phased modulated lines while acquiring highly resolved thermal images. The defect position is retrieved from evaluating thermal wave interference minima.
