Prediction Model

A prediction model is a statistical or computational framework that uses available data to estimate unknown outcomes or future events, supporting informed decisions under uncertainty. It learns relationships between input variables and a target outcome by fitting parameters to historical observations, then applies those relationships to new data; validation methods assess accuracy and help identify overfitting. In statistics, prediction models may use regression, classification, or time-series approaches to quantify expected outcomes and uncertainty. Applications include forecasting demand, assessing risk, supporting diagnosis, and guiding policy or research, while careful data selection and performance evaluation determine how reliably the model generalizes.

2007

Charles Taylor and John Marshall explain the utility of mathematical modeling for evaluating the effectiveness of population replacement strategy. Insight is given into how computational models can provide information on the population dynamics of mosquitoes and the spread of transposable elements through A. gambiae subspecies. The ethical considerations of releasing genetically modified mosquitoes into the wild are discussed.

2011

Guidelines for computer based structural and functional characterization of protein using the I-TASSER pipeline is described. Starting from query protein sequence, 3D models are generated using multiple threading alignments and iterative structural assembly simulations. Functional inferences are thereafter drawn based on matches to proteins with known structure and functions.

VSEPR Theory for Determination of Electron Pair Geometries The following procedure uses VSEPR theory to determine the electron pair geometries and the molecular structures: Write the Lewis structure of the molecule or polyatomic ion. Count the number of electron groups (lone pairs and bonds) around the central atom. A single, double, or triple bond counts as one region of electron density. Identify the electron-pair geometry based on the number of electron groups: linear, trigonal planar,...
