Microscopy Session

Microscopy is the use of optical or electron-based instruments to produce magnified, resolved images of specimens, while a microscopy session is a structured period of sample observation and image acquisition. In biochemistry, the process depends on preparing a sample, illuminating or scanning it, and using lenses or detectors to convert differences in light, fluorescence, or electron signal into visual contrast. Microscopy sessions help researchers examine cell structure, localize biomolecules, assess sample quality, and document changes under experimental conditions. Careful control of magnification, resolution, focus, and imaging settings supports reliable interpretation and links microscopic observations to biochemical function.

Short session (≤10 min) high intensity interval training (HIIT) is emerging as an alternative to longer exercise modalities, yet the shorter variants are rarely modeled in animal studies. Here, we describe a 10 min, 3 day a week, uphill treadmill HIIT protocol that enhances physical performance in male and female aged mice.

Correlative Light- and Electron Microscopy Using Quantum Dot Nanoparticles

A method is described whereby quantum dot (QD) nanoparticles can be used for correlative immunocytochemical studies of epoxy embedded human pathology tissue. We employ commercial antibody fragment conjugated QDs that are visualized by widefield fluorescence light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy.

Combinatorial 5 fluorescent proteins marking of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells allows in vivo clonal tracking via confocal and two-photon microscopy, providing insights into bone marrow hematopoietic architecture during regeneration. This method allows non-invasive fate mapping of spectrally-coded HSPCs-derived cells in intact tissues for extensive periods of time following transplantation.
