3d Bone Models

3D bone models are laboratory-engineered constructs that reproduce key features of bone structure and function, providing controllable systems for studying skeletal biology and disease. They typically combine biomaterials, living bone-forming cells, or both within a three-dimensional architecture that supports cell attachment, matrix deposition, mineralization, and mechanical signaling. In bioengineering, these models help researchers investigate bone development, remodeling, injury, and disease while reducing reliance on animal studies. They also support evaluation of biomaterials, implants, and regenerative therapies, with advances in bioprinting and tissue engineering improving the ability to create anatomically relevant models for personalized treatment research.

In standard culture methods cells are taken out of their physiological environment and grown on the plastic surface of a dish. To study the behavior of primary human bone marrow cells we created a 3-D culture system where cells are grown under conditions recapitulating the native microenvironment of the tissue.

Generating Rabbit Model of Bone Infection: A Technique of Inducing Chronic Infection by Injecting Bacteria Directly in Bone Marrow
