Quartet Signal Prediction

Quartet signal prediction is the process of anticipating a quartet pattern in a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrum and using it to interpret molecular structure. In proton NMR, a proton coupled to three equivalent neighboring protons is commonly split into four lines by the n+1 rule; the lines reflect scalar spin-spin coupling and typically show equal spacing under first-order conditions. Predicting this pattern helps assign proton environments, recognize fragments such as an ethyl group when paired with a triplet, and distinguish chemically similar structures. It also supports spectrum simulation, peak assignment, and validation of proposed compounds in synthetic and analytical chemistry.

VSEPR Theory for Determination of Electron Pair Geometries The following procedure uses VSEPR theory to determine the electron pair geometries and the molecular structures: Write the Lewis structure of the molecule or polyatomic ion. Count the number of electron groups (lone pairs and bonds) around the central atom. A single, double, or triple bond counts as one region of electron density. Identify the electron-pair geometry based on the number of electron groups: linear, trigonal planar,...

Guidelines for computer based structural and functional characterization of protein using the I-TASSER pipeline is described. Starting from query protein sequence, 3D models are generated using multiple threading alignments and iterative structural assembly simulations. Functional inferences are thereafter drawn based on matches to proteins with known structure and functions.

High-throughput selective 2' hydroxyl acylation analyzed by primer extension (SHAPE) utilizes a novel chemical probing technology, reverse transcription, capillary electrophoresis and secondary structure prediction software to determine the structures of RNAs from several hundred to several thousand nucleotides at single nucleotide resolution.

Prediction Intervals

The interval estimate of any variable is known as the prediction interval. It helps decide if a point estimate is dependable. However, the point estimate is most likely not the exact value of the population parameter, but close to it. After calculating point estimates, we construct interval estimates, called confidence intervals or prediction intervals. This prediction interval comprises a range of values unlike the point estimate and is a better predictor of the observed sample value, y. The...

A signal x(t) is a set of data or a time function representing a variable of interest. Signals typically convey information about a phenomenon, such as atmospheric temperature, humidity, human voice, television images, a dog's bark, or birdsongs. More generally, a signal can be a function of more than one independent variable. For instance, images depend on horizontal and vertical positions and can be regarded as two-dimensional signals. However, this text will focus on one-dimensional signals...
