Infusion Pump Administration

Infusion pump administration is the controlled delivery of fluids, medications, nutrients, or blood products into a patient through an intravenous or other access route, supporting precise clinical treatment. The pump uses programmed settings such as flow rate, volume, and dose to regulate fluid movement over time, while alarms can signal occlusions, air in the line, or completion of delivery. In clinical practice, this method helps administer therapies that require consistent or carefully titrated dosing, including maintenance fluids, antibiotics, analgesics, and vasoactive medications. Proper device selection, line preparation, programming, monitoring, and response to alarms promote accurate delivery and patient safety.
