Non-destructive Analysis

Non-destructive analysis is the evaluation of a material, component, or structure without cutting, dismantling, or otherwise impairing its future use. In engineering, it works by directing energy or a sensing field, such as ultrasonic waves, X-rays, heat, or electromagnetic signals, into an object and interpreting changes caused by geometry, material properties, or defects. Methods can reveal cracks, corrosion, voids, delamination, and other irregularities while preserving the inspected item. This supports manufacturing quality control, in-service inspection, structural integrity assessment, and predictive maintenance, helping engineers identify problems early, reduce unnecessary replacement, and improve the safety and reliability of critical systems.

Non-destructive Tests for Concrete Strength

2024

The rebound hammer test, also known as the Schmidt hammer test, is a non-destructive technique for evaluating the hardness of concrete and, indirectly, the strength of concrete. It operates on the principle that the rebound of a spring-driven mass from a concrete surface correlates to the surface's hardness. The device comprises a mass within a tubular housing, a spring mechanism, and a plunger that strikes the concrete. Upon release, the energy imparted to the mass by the spring causes it to...

Application and Methodology of the Non-destructive 19F Time-domain NMR Technique to Measure the Content in Fluorine-containing Drug Products

A simple and non-destructive technique that measures the average content of drug substances in formulated drug products containing fluorine using low-field fluorine-19 (19F) time-domain (TD) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is presented here. The technique can be applied to the development and manufacturing of drugs in the pharmaceutical industry.

This method aims at locating vertical subsurface defects. Here, we couple a laser with a spatial light modulator and trigger its video input to heat a sample surface deterministically with two anti-phased modulated lines while acquiring highly resolved thermal images. The defect position is retrieved from evaluating thermal wave interference minima.

Non-Destructive Evaluation of Regional Cell Density Within Tumor Aggregates Following Drug Treatment

The present protocol develops an image-based technique for rapid, non-destructive, and label-free regional cell density and viability measurement within 3D tumor aggregates. Findings revealed a cell-density gradient, with higher cell densities in core regions than outer layers in developing aggregates and predominantly peripheral cell death in HER2+ aggregates treated with Trastuzumab.
