Propeller Test Rig

A propeller test rig is an experimental system used to evaluate how a propeller produces thrust and consumes power under controlled operating conditions. It drives the propeller at specified rotational speeds while instruments measure variables such as thrust, torque, and electrical or mechanical power, allowing engineers to calculate performance across different loads and operating points. These rigs support the design and validation of propellers for aircraft, drones, marine vehicles, and other propulsion systems by enabling controlled comparisons of geometry, materials, and operating conditions. Test data also helps refine simulations, improve efficiency, and identify performance limits before full-scale integration.

Source: Shreyas Narsipur, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC A propeller is a twisted airfoil, where the angle of the chord changes with respect to the location, along the radial station, as shown in Figure 1. Propellers are widely used in aircraft and watercraft propulsion systems thereby necessitating detailed characterizations of propellers to design high performance vehicles. Figure 1. Chord, thickness, and pitch at a radial station. One of...

2014

Innate defenses to virus infections are triggered by pattern recognition receptors (PRRs). The two cytoplasmic PRRs RIG-I and PKR bind to viral signature RNAs, change conformation, oligomerize, and activate antiviral signaling. Methods are described which allow to conveniently monitor the conformational switching and the oligomerization of these cytoplasmic PRRs.

2021

We present a protocol for a laboratory-scale slow cook-off test for solid rocket propellants called the Combustion Rate Analysis of a Slowly Heated Propellant (CRASH-P) test. Confined rocket propellants are slowly heated until autoignition, and both the cook-off temperature and the violence of reaction are measured with dynamic pressure sensors.
