Resonance Frequency Sweeping

Resonance frequency sweeping is an engineering method that varies the frequency of an applied input to identify how a system responds near its natural frequencies. During a sweep, excitation frequency changes across a selected range while instruments record response measures such as amplitude and phase, revealing resonance peaks, damping behavior, and frequency-dependent dynamics. Engineers use these measurements for vibration testing, modal analysis, structural health assessment, and the characterization of mechanical, electrical, or acoustic systems. The results support model validation, performance optimization, and the prevention of excessive vibration or resonance-related failure in designed products and structures.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides a powerful tool to evaluate the effectiveness of process equipment during operation. We discuss the use of MRI to visualize mixing in a static mixer. The application is relevant to personal care products, but can be applied to a broad range of food, chemical, biomass and biological fluids.

Recapitulation of an Ion Channel IV Curve Using Frequency Components

There are technical obstacles to measuring current flux through multiple ion channels simultaneously, and later discerning what portion of the transmembrane current is due to each channel type. To address this need, this method presents a way to generate the IV curve of individual channel types using specific frequency components.

The Lewis structure of a nitrite anion (NO2−) may actually be drawn in two different ways, distinguished by the locations of the N-O and N=O bonds. If nitrite ions do indeed contain a single and a double bond, the two bond lengths are expected to be different. A double bond between two atoms is shorter (and stronger) than a single bond between the same two atoms. However, experiments show that both N–O bonds in NO2− have the same strength and length, and are identical in all other...
