Late Complications

Late complications are health problems that arise weeks, months, or years after an illness, injury, medical procedure, or treatment, and they may persist even after the initial condition appears resolved. They develop when ongoing inflammation, scarring, altered immune responses, vascular damage, or progressive tissue remodeling disrupts normal organ function over time. Recognizing these delayed outcomes helps clinicians monitor at-risk patients, distinguish recurrence from treatment-related effects, and intervene before irreversible damage occurs. In medicine, studying late complications supports long-term follow-up, survivorship care, risk assessment, preventive strategies, and treatment planning that considers both immediate benefits and future health consequences.

Healing II: Complications

2026

Complications during healing arise when tissue repair is altered by local or systemic factors. These changes involve abnormal collagen deposition, altered biomechanics, and reduced vascular supply, impairing restoration of normal structure and function.Loss of FunctionScar tissue differs significantly from the original tissue it replaces. In the skin, fibrosis lacks adnexal structures such as hair follicles, sebaceous glands, and sweat glands. Their absence reduces tactile sensitivity, impairs...

Stage-specific isolation of mid-to-late Drosophila follicles is useful for a variety of purposes. Such follicles develop in culture, which allows for genetic and/or pharmacologic manipulations to be coupled with in vitro development assays and live imaging. Additionally, follicles can be used for molecular studies, such as isolating mRNA and protein.
