Limbal Redness Analysis

Limbal redness analysis is the systematic assessment of red discoloration around the corneal limbus, the junction between the cornea and sclera, to characterize ocular surface irritation or inflammation. It typically uses clinical or digital eye images to identify the limbal region and quantify vascular prominence through color, intensity, area, or vessel-pattern measurements under standardized conditions. In medicine, these measurements can support eye examinations, help monitor changes associated with conditions such as dry eye or allergy, and provide more reproducible outcomes than subjective visual grading alone. The approach also supports research on ocular surface disease and the effects of contact lenses or treatments.

Red Algae

Red algae, also known as rhodophytes, are primarily found in marine environments, though some species inhabit freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems. These organisms exist in both unicellular and multicellular forms, with some multicellular varieties reaching macroscopic sizes. As phototrophic organisms, red algae contain chlorophyll a; however, their chloroplasts lack chlorophyll b. Instead, they possess phycobiliproteins, which serve as major light-harvesting pigments, similar to those found in...

Adenoviral Gene Therapy for Diabetic Keratopathy: Effects on Wound Healing and Stem Cell Marker Expression in Human Organ-cultured Corneas and Limbal Epithelial Cells

An example of adenoviral gene therapy in the human diabetic organ-cultured corneas is presented towards the normalization of delayed wound healing and markedly reduced epithelial stem cell marker expression in these corneas. It also describes the optimization of this process in stem cell-enriched limbal epithelial cultures.
