Multimodal Fusion

Multimodal fusion is the integration of complementary information from different data modalities, such as medical images, clinical records, laboratory measurements, and genomic profiles, to support more complete analysis. The process aligns and combines modality-specific features through strategies such as early fusion of raw or engineered data, intermediate fusion of learned representations, or late fusion of model predictions, while addressing differences in scale, format, and missing information. In medicine, multimodal fusion can improve disease detection, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment selection, and patient monitoring. By linking biological, anatomical, and clinical signals, it supports clinical decision-making and advances more personalized healthcare.

Nuclear Fusion

The process of converting very light nuclei into heavier nuclei is also accompanied by the conversion of mass into large amounts of energy, a process called fusion. The principal source of energy in the sun is a net fusion reaction in which four hydrogen nuclei fuse and ultimately produce one helium nucleus and two positrons. A helium nucleus has a mass that is 0.7% less than that of four hydrogen nuclei; this lost mass is converted into energy during the fusion. This reaction produces about...

Here, we present a protocol for live imaging of mouse secondary palate fusion using confocal microscopy. This protocol can be used in combination with a variety of fluorescent reporter mouse lines, and with pathway inhibitors for mechanistic insight. This protocol can be adapted for live imaging in other developmental systems.

This protocol describes the synthesis of biofunctionalized Prussian blue nanoparticles and their use as multimodal, molecular imaging agents. The nanoparticles have a core-shell design where gadolinium or manganese ions within the nanoparticle core generate MRI contrast. The biofunctional shell contains fluorophores for fluorescence imaging and targeting ligands for molecular targeting.
