Perfusion Circuit Setup

Perfusion circuit setup is the assembly and preparation of an extracorporeal blood-flow system used to support circulation and gas exchange during medical procedures. The circuit connects components such as tubing, a reservoir, pump, oxygenator, filters, and monitoring ports; priming and de-airing establish a fluid-filled pathway, while the pump drives blood flow and the oxygenator regulates oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange. In medicine, proper setup helps maintain controlled perfusion during cardiopulmonary bypass and related interventions. Accurate component selection, leak testing, pressure monitoring, and sterile technique promote reliable operation and reduce risks associated with air, clot formation, inadequate flow, or impaired gas exchange.

Ex-Vivo Lung Perfusion (EVLP) has allowed lung transplantation in humans to become more readily available by enabling the ability to assess organs and expand the donor pool. Here, we describe the development of a rat EVLP program and refinements that allow for a reproducible model for future expansion.

A resistor dissipates energy and obeys Ohm's law, with its voltage proportional to its current. A capacitor stores electrical energy, with its current proportional to the rate of change of its voltage, while an inductor stores magnetic energy, with its voltage...
