Rat Incisor Isolation

Rat incisor isolation is a laboratory technique used to remove and separate rat incisors for controlled study of tooth structure, dental tissues, and regenerative processes. Because rat incisors grow continuously, researchers can dissect the tooth and isolate regions such as enamel, dentin, pulp, or periodontal tissues while preserving their anatomical organization for analysis. The procedure typically involves extracting the incisor, removing surrounding soft tissue, and carefully opening or sectioning the tooth under sterile conditions. Isolated incisors support investigations of odontogenesis, dental stem and progenitor cells, tissue repair, biomaterials, and drug responses, providing an accessible model for studying mechanisms relevant to oral medicine and regenerative dentistry.

Understanding enamel formation and possible alterations requires the study of ameloblast activity. Here, we describe a reliable and consistent method to micro-dissect enamel organs containing secretion- and maturation-stage ameloblasts that may be used for further quantitative and qualitative experimental procedures.

The isolation of neonatal rat cardiomyocytes is a time consuming and unpredictable procedure. This study describes methods for cryopreservation and thawing of neonatal rat cardiomyocytes that allows for more efficient use of cells. The thawed NRCMs can be used for various experiments without the need for performing isolations each time.
