Dorsolateral Telencephalon

The dorsolateral telencephalon is a forebrain subdivision involved in sensory integration, learning, and memory, particularly in studies of teleost and other vertebrate brains. Its neuronal circuits process converging sensory information and can modify synaptic strength through activity-dependent plasticity, allowing experiences to be encoded as spatial or contextual representations. Researchers examine this region using anatomical tracing, gene-expression analysis, electrophysiology, and behavioral assays to relate its structure to cognition. Because the dorsolateral telencephalon shares functional features with mammalian hippocampal circuits, it provides a valuable system for investigating memory mechanisms, neural evolution, regeneration, and the organization of vertebrate forebrain networks.
