Interlamellar Ca1 Network

The interlamellar CA1 network is a system of neuronal connections linking hippocampal CA1 circuits across neighboring lamellae, extending information flow beyond locally organized pathways. It operates through longitudinal axonal projections and synaptic interactions among CA1 pyramidal neurons and inhibitory interneurons, allowing activity from different lamellar segments to be integrated over space and time. This organization may support coordinated hippocampal representations involved in spatial navigation, episodic memory, and contextual processing. Studying the interlamellar CA1 network helps researchers understand how local circuit computations combine with long-range connectivity and how disrupted communication may contribute to neurological dysfunction.

We used recording and stimulation electrodes in longitudinal hippocampal brain slices and longitudinally positioned recording and stimulation electrodes in the dorsal hippocampus in vivo to evoke extracellular postsynaptic potentials and demonstrate long-term synaptic plasticity along the longitudinal interlamellar CA1.

Recording CA3-CA1 Synaptic Responses in a Rat Hippocampal Slice

2025

This video demonstrates a method to record CA3-CA1 synaptic responses in a rat hippocampal slice. It outlines the steps involved in placing the stimulating and recording electrodes on the hippocampal slice and measuring the field excitatory postsynaptic potential (fEPSP) to assess synaptic response strength.

Protein Networks

An organism can have thousands of different proteins, and these proteins must cooperate to ensure the health of an organism. Proteins bind to other proteins and form complexes to carry out their functions. Many proteins interact with multiple other proteins creating a complex network of protein interactions. These interactions can be represented through maps depicting protein-protein interaction networks, represented as nodes and edges. Nodes are circles that are representative of a protein,...
