Portable Thermography

Portable thermography is the use of compact infrared imaging systems to measure and map surface temperature outside a fixed laboratory or clinical setup. Thermal cameras detect infrared radiation emitted by the body and convert it into temperature patterns, while calibration and control of ambient conditions improve measurement reliability. In neuroscience, these noncontact measurements can complement studies of autonomic regulation, stress, pain, sensory processing, and neurovascular responses by tracking changes in skin temperature. Portability supports repeated assessments during naturalistic behavior, field studies, or bedside research, although results require careful interpretation because blood flow, environmental temperature, and other factors influence surface temperature.

2026

Cycling biomechanics relies on efficient muscle activation and core stabilization. Infrared thermography (IRT) offers non-invasive monitoring of muscle fatigue. This protocol establishes a standardized methodology for integrating IRT into biomechanical analysis, aiming to optimize performance and prevent injury in amateur cyclists through precise physiological monitoring.

This method aims at locating vertical subsurface defects. Here, we couple a laser with a spatial light modulator and trigger its video input to heat a sample surface deterministically with two anti-phased modulated lines while acquiring highly resolved thermal images. The defect position is retrieved from evaluating thermal wave interference minima.

2012

A reliable home-based way to assess the language comprehension of very young typically developing children, as well as those with autism, is described. The method analyzes children's eye gaze while viewing side-by-side images but hearing an audio that matches only one image. Stimuli are designed with young participants in mind.

Here, we present a protocol to perform portable cellular aerosol exposures and measure cellular response. The method uses cells, grown at the air-liquid interface, mimicking in vivo physiology. Cellular response to copper nanoparticle aerosols was observed as oxidative stress through reactive oxygen species generation and cytotoxicity as lactate dehydrogenase release.
