Neurophysiological Equipment

Neurophysiological equipment comprises instruments used to record, measure, or modulate electrical and physiological activity in the nervous system, supporting research and clinical assessment. Devices such as electroencephalography systems, electromyography units, and neural stimulators use electrodes or sensors to detect bioelectric signals, amplify and filter them, and convert them into interpretable recordings or controlled stimuli. In neuroscience, these tools help characterize brain and nerve function, investigate neural communication, monitor responses to sensory or motor tasks, and identify abnormalities associated with neurological disorders. Their measurements also support experimental modeling, diagnosis, treatment planning, and the development of neurotechnologies.

An Introduction to Neurophysiology

2023

Neurophysiology is broadly defined as the study of nervous system function. In this field, scientists investigate the central and peripheral nervous systems at the level of whole organs, cellular networks, single cells, or even subcellular compartments. A unifying feature of this wide-ranging discipline is an interest in the mechanisms that lead to the generation and propagation of electrical impulses within and between neurons. This subject is important not only for our understanding of the...

Attention control comprises enhancement of target signals and attenuation of distractor signals. We describe an approach to measure separately but concurrently, the neurophysiology of attending and ignoring in sustained intermodal attention, utilizing a passive control condition during which neither process is continuously engaged.

Leveling Equipment

As leveling involves measuring vertical distances relative to a horizontal line of sight, it requires a graduated rod, called a level rod, for vertical measurements and an instrument called a level for a horizontal sight line. A level includes a high-powered telescope with a mechanism for leveling to ensure the line of sight is horizontal when the bubble in the spirit level is centered. Leveling rods, made of wood, metal, or fiberglass, are graduated in feet or meters and commonly used in two-...
