Cultural Context

Cultural context is the social, historical, and environmental framework that shapes how people interpret experiences, develop identities, and behave. In psychology, it influences cognition and emotion through cultural norms, values, language, family practices, and socialization, which guide attention, meaning-making, relationships, and responses to stress. Considering cultural context helps researchers distinguish broadly shared psychological processes from patterns shaped by particular communities and avoids treating one cultural group as the universal standard. It also strengthens psychological assessment, education, mental health care, and intervention design by supporting culturally responsive methods and more accurate interpretations of behavior across diverse populations.

For Vygotsky, a child's learning cannot be separated from their social environment, which includes the values, beliefs, and...

Human co-infection is difficult to replicate in vitro. However, human malaria parasites can readily be cultured in vitro, as can freshly isolated human peripheral blood mononuclear cells naturally infected with HIV. This provides an excellent model for studying early immune responses to malaria parasites in the context of HIV co-infection.
