Pavlinka Kovatcheva is the Science Faculty Librarian at the University of Johannesburg. She collaborates with the Faculty of Science in support to the teaching, learning and research needs of the users. She has 21 years of experience as subject librarian at University of Johannesburg. Throughout this time, she helps her students and academics to adapt to the changing higher education and library environments, from traditional to digital library support, adapting services to support research and scholarly communication. More so, during and after Covid pandemic the focus changed to remote and hybrid support to the faculty. In the last few years, the attention shifted to support researchers by library funded options for publishing in open access. In the age of AI, it becomes a necessity to train students on ethical and responsible use of AI. She has always been passionate about her work by learning and applying new ideas and innovations. In 2010 Pavlinka received the SLA: Astronomy, Physics and Mathematics division award for librarian in developing countries. In 2019 Pavlinka Kovatcheva became one of the two STEM Librarians winners for outstanding knowledge transfer of the JoVE Inaugural EMEA Librarian Travel Award. She has been involved for 10 years with the South African Online User Group (SAOUG) as a committee member, organising library conferences and workshops. Over the years she presented at various national and international library conferences, sharing her knowledge and experiences.
