Dr. Shantanu Ganguly is one of India’s leading academic knowledge strategists and research infrastructure leaders, with more than 28 years of executive leadership across globally respected universities, healthcare institutions, and multidisciplinary research organizations. At Ashoka University, he is leading the strategic transformation of the HDFC Library into a next-generation knowledge ecosystem that advances research excellence, digital scholarship, AI-enabled discovery, open science, and global academic collaboration. His leadership extends far beyond library management. He works at the intersection of research, technology, policy, and institutional innovation, enabling researchers, faculty, and students to leverage advanced knowledge systems, research analytics, scholarly communication, and digital infrastructure throughout the research lifecycle. Under his leadership, the library is evolving into a strategic institutional partner supporting interdisciplinary research, data-driven decision-making, and international visibility. Before joining Ashoka University, Dr. Ganguly held senior leadership positions at AIIMS, TERI, NIMS University, IIM Lucknow, IILM University, and other premier institutions, where he successfully led organization-wide digital transformation initiatives, established modern knowledge infrastructures, managed large institutional budgets, and developed research support systems serving thousands of researchers and students. A recognized authority in research management and knowledge systems, Dr. Ganguly has led or contributed to numerous high-impact projects funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Department of Science & Technology (DST), World Bank, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Asian Development Bank (ADB), UNEP, DFID-RCUK, and other national and international agencies. His work has strengthened research data ecosystems, knowledge portals, institutional repositories, climate knowledge platforms, and digital innovation initiatives across India. Dr. Ganguly has authored and edited books, peer-reviewed publications, and international conference proceedings, while serving as editor and advisor to leading scholarly journals and knowledge platforms. He has conceptualized and directed six editions of the International Conference on Digital Libraries (ICDL)—one of Asia’s largest and most influential conferences in digital libraries and knowledge management—and continues to contribute to global conversations on AI, research communication, digital transformation, open science, and the future of academic knowledge ecosystems. An accomplished educator, mentor, and keynote speaker, he has designed executive education programmes, research capacity-building initiatives, faculty development programmes, and professional learning experiences for universities, government agencies, and international organizations.
