Guidelines in Case of a Laboratory Emergency

1. Algemene Noodsituaties
<ol>
	<li>Afhankelijk van het type noodsituatie, zijn er specifieke richtlijnen die moeten worden gevolgd; er zijn echter een paar algemene principes die voor elke soort noodsituatie moeten worden gevolgd:</li>
	<li>Zorg eerst voor je eigen veiligheid en blijf kalm.</li>
	<li>Bel lokale noodhulpdiensten of een veiligheidsafdeling (bijv. Milieubeheer en Veiligheid (MVS)), wanneer mogelijk, om de noodsituatie te melden.</li>
	<li>Informeer mensen in de buurt over wat er is gebeurd en trek de noodalarm, wanneer en indien nodig.</li>
</ol>
2. Chemische Stortingen
Chemische stortingen zijn de meest voorkomende ongevallen bij het werken in een laboratorium dat chemicaliën vereist. Onjuist of onzorgvuldig openen, hanteren of opslaan van chemicaliën kan leiden tot chemische stortingen. Grootschalige stortingen van een niet-gevaarlijk chemisch product of zelfs een kleine hoeveelheid van een gevaarlijk chemisch product kunnen het leven van laboratoriumpersoneel bedreigen. Daarom moet voorzichtigheid in acht worden genomen bij het werken met chemicaliën en altijd geschikte persoonlijke beschermingsmiddelen (PBM) dragen om lichamelijk contact te voorkomen in geval van een lekkage.

	<li>Chemische lekkage op de omgeving
	<ol>
		<li>Identificeer het gebied van de chemische lekkage en informeer uw laboratoriumcollega's over de lekkage. Evacueer de locatie en de gebieden rond de lekkage, indien nodig.</li>
		<li>Identificeer de gelekte chemicaliën en de hoeveelheid van de gelekte chemische stof. Afhankelijk van de gevaarlijke eigenschappen en hoeveelheden van de gelekte chemicaliën, moeten de juiste acties worden ondernomen. Raadpleeg de veiligheidsinformatiebladen (VSB) van de chemische stof voor gevarenbeoordelingen.</li>
		<li>Kleine lekkages verwijzen naar lekkages van minder dan 1 gallon chemische stoffen met een laag risico of minder dan 20 ml gevaarlijke chemicaliën:
		<ol>

			<li>Vul de lekkageset bij.</li>
		</ol>
		</li>
		<li>Grote lekkages verwijzen naar lekkages van meer dan 1 gallon chemische stoffen met een laag risico of meer dan 20 ml hooggevaarlijke chemicaliën. Als een grote lekkage optreedt:
		<ol>
			<li>Beveilig en evacueer het gelekte gebied onmiddellijk.</li>
			<li>Zorg ervoor dat alle nabijgelegen personeel weet dat er een grote lekkage heeft plaatsgevonden.</li>
			<li>Bel noodhulpdiensten of MVS om hulp te vragen.</li>

	<li>Chemische lekkage op het lichaam
	<ol>
		<li>Was alle chemicaliën die op het lichaam zijn gelekt onmiddellijk weg met een veiligheidsdouche gedurende ten minste 15 minuten. Als kleding verzadigd is met gelekte chemicaliën, verwijder dan onmiddellijk de kleding.</li>
		<li>Als de lekkage in de ogen is gespat, gebruik dan onmiddellijk een oogwasmiddel gedurende ten minste 15 minuten. Open de ogen om een volledige wasbeurt mogelijk te maken. Probeer contactlenzen alleen te verwijderen nadat het oogwassen is begonnen.</li>
		<li>Als de gelekte chemische stof een sterk zuur is, veeg dan de restanten eerst uit voor het wassen om overmatige of pijnlijke verbranding te voorkomen.</li>
		<li>Verwijder besmette kleding onmiddellijk om verdere blootstelling aan chemicaliën te voorkomen.</li>
		<li>Bel lokale hulpdiensten of MVS voor noodhulp en waarschuw mensen in de omgeving van de lekkage.</li>

3. Brand of Explosie
<ol>
	<li>Brand of explosie kan optreden door oververhitting, lekkage of overstorting van ontvlambare chemicaliën of gassen die worden blootgesteld aan overmatige hitte, een open vlam of elektrische vonken in het laboratorium. Wees voorzichtig bij het werken met ontvlambare of explosieve chemicaliën en vermijd warmte of elektrische vonken in de buurt. Gebruik elektrische apparatuur en elke warmtebron veilig om brand of explosie te voorkomen.</li>
	<li>In geval van een brand waarbij de kleding van een persoon betrokken is, ren niet, want dit kan de brand versnellen. Stop, val op de grond met de handen over het gezicht en rol om de brand te blussen. Gebruik indien mogelijk de veiligheidsdouche om de brand te blussen.</li>
	<li>In geval van een laboratoriumbrand of explosie, zorg eerst voor uw veiligheid en bel onmiddellijk noodhulpdiensten om hulp te vragen.</li>
	<li>Evacueer het gebouw veilig en trek aan de brandalarmen of waarschuw indien mogelijk nabije personen.</li>
	<li>Gebruik geen liften. Gebruik trappen en zoek de dichtstbijzijnde uitgang.</li>
	<li>Als het mogelijk is, schakel de stroom uit voordat u het gebied evacueert.</li

Noodgevallen kunnen in het laboratorium voorkomen, ongeacht hoe gedetailleerd de veiligheidsvoorschriften zijn. Als er een noodsituatie ontstaat, raak niet in paniek en zorg eerst voor uw veiligheid voordat u aanvullende acties onderneemt. Beoordeel de situatie en bel lokale nooddiensten om hulp te vragen. Voor ernstige verwondingen, wacht tot de hulpdiensten arriveren en onderneem geen acties zonder de juiste kennis. Voor kleine verwondingen, gebruik de EHBO-kit om te helpen, wanneer dat nodig is.

Wees van tevoren op de hoogte van mogelijke laboratoriumongevallen voordat u in het lab gaat werken en voorkom ongevallen door de veiligheidsvoorschriften te volgen. Neem voorzorgsmaatregelen bij het omgaan met gevaarlijke chemicaliën en/of zware werkomstandigheden. Plan van tevoren wat er in allerlei soorten ongevallen moet worden gedaan. In geval van nood, blijf kalm en zorg eerst voor uw eigen veiligheid. Bel vervolgens lokale noodhulpdiensten voor assistentie en waarschuw mensen in de omgeving voor de noodsituatie en de mogelijke impact ervan op hen. Neem passende maatregelen om schade of verwondingen te beperken.

Gebruik een natte handdoek om mond en neus te bedekken als bescherming tegen zware rook.Trek de brandalarmen en evacueer het gebouw veilig. Gebruik de trappen, want liften kunnen tijdens het gebruik beschadigd raken.Kleine branden kunnen worden geblust met een brandblusser, maar het is belangrijk om de juiste te gebruiken, afhankelijk van het type brand. Beweeg de gewonde persoon niet, tenzij ze uit een ernstige dreiging moeten worden verwijderd.Als een persoon een elektrische schok heeft gekregen, schakel dan eerst de stroom uit indien mogelijk. Gebruik niet-geleidend materiaal zoals hout, glas of rubber om de persoon weg te trekken van het elektrische contact.Als de persoon bloedt uit kleine snijwonden of schaafwonden, spoel dan met water om besmetting te voorkomen en behandel met EHBO-benodigdheden. Voor ernstige snijwonden, roep medische hulp in.Tijdens het wachten op hulp, houd de persoon warm en kalm.
