Islet Size Distribution

Islet size distribution describes the range and frequency of pancreatic islet sizes within a tissue sample, rather than a single average. It reflects how endocrine cell clusters form, grow, and are remodeled, while islet dimensions can affect nutrient and oxygen diffusion and the balance of hormone secretion. Researchers measure this distribution using histological sections, microscopy, and image analysis to compare normal and diseased pancreata, assess diabetes-related changes, and evaluate isolated islet preparations for transplantation or experimental studies. Understanding size heterogeneity helps connect tissue architecture with beta-cell function, viability, and therapeutic performance.

Pore Size Distribution

2024

In concrete, the pore size distribution significantly influences the material's properties. Capillary pores, markedly larger than gel pores, form a vast network within partially hydrated cement paste, reducing the concrete's strength and increasing its permeability. This heightened permeability leads to a greater risk of damage from environmental factors like freeze-thaw cycles and chemical attacks, with the extent of vulnerability also being tied to the water-to-cement ratio. Adequate...

Automated Capillary Electrophoresis Based Fragment Size Distribution Analysis of cfDNA: A DNA Microchip-based Method to Study Size Distribution of DNA Fragments Isolated from Biofluids

Presented here is a procedure for reproducible and statistically valid determinations of starch granule size distributions, and for specifying the determined granule lognormal size distributions using a two-parameter multiplicative form. It is applicable to all granule sizing analyses of gram-scale starch samples for plant and food science research.

Grafting Pancreatic Islets: A Method to Implant Pancreatic Islets into the Anterior Chamber of the Mouse Eye for In Vivo Imaging

2023

This video describes the protocol for grafting human pancreatic islets into the anterior chamber of the mouse’s eye to monitor revascularization of human islet grafts in vivo. It also helps to understand the contribution of recipient versus donor cells in promoting the encapsulation and vascularization of the graft.
