Single-cell Rna Sequencing

Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) is a method for measuring gene expression in individual cells, revealing cellular heterogeneity that bulk RNA sequencing can obscure. It works by isolating cells or nuclei, capturing their RNA with cell-specific molecular barcodes, converting transcripts into complementary DNA, and sequencing the resulting libraries for computational assignment and quantification. In developmental biology, scRNA-seq can identify transient cell populations, reconstruct lineage relationships, and track gene-expression changes as tissues form. These data support studies of differentiation, organogenesis, disease models, and regenerative processes, while integration with spatial or functional measurements can link molecular states to cell location and behavior.
